Roxie (Mathews) Haffner 17796 SW Nels Drive, Sherwood, OR  97140 roxhaf@comcast.net

After high school, I joined the Marine Corps, which paid for my college education.  I enrolled at OTI and met my husband there.  After he graduated, we moved to California.  We were there for several years before moving home to Oregon.  (Bill is originally from Salem.)  We lived in Monmouth for 21 years and it was there that I finished up my degree and became a Children's Librarian at the Monmouth Public Library.  Ten years ago, we moved to Sherwood and I retired.  Now I cross stitch and knit as much as possible.  This retirement thing is awesome!!!

We have a son who lives nearby in Portland and a daughter, who lives in Kuwait.  (She married a young man who attended college in Monmouth.)  My traveling consists of yearly trips to Kuwait to see my three WONDERFUL grandchildren.

I won't be able to attend the reunion this year, because of previous travel commitments, but I appreciate the opportunity to keep current on all of us who remain.  For myself, I graduated from Oregon in 67, and then from Santa Clara Law School in 70, and went to work in Gold Beach, where I married Yvette in 72.  We moved to Klamath in 72 and have been here since.  I practiced here until the end of 06 when I retired.  We continue to live here, and have no plans to move.  We are most proud of our 3 children, Clifton, born 1975, Andrew, born 1978, and Melanie, born 1980, and our three grandchildren---Claudia, age 3, Riddick, 11 mos, and Harry, 3 mos.  My interests have changed little from high school days--hunting and shooting, fishing, reading and travelling.  Some things never change.  Maybe I haven't grown up yet.  Please extend my thanks to all who have worked on the reunion, and my best wishes to all who attend.

Kathryn Murdock is an attorney working in the area of the law of public education. For twenty years, she has been advising and educating state boards of education, local school boards, superintendents, principals, teachers and parents on legal issues in education, such as special education, liability, church/state relations, and sexual harassment.

For twelve years she was the Director of Legal Services for the Oregon Department of Education, and also served as Chief of Legal Affairs for the Connecticut Department of Education. Since 1997 she has been general counsel for the Vancouver School District in Vancouver, Washington.

Prior to attending the University of Oregon Law School (J.D. ‘81), she was a middle school teacher and school counselor in the Bethel School District in Eugene, and in Coventry, Rhode Island. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Rhode Island and Masters degree from the University of Oregon.

She teaches school law at the University of Oregon and Clark College in Vancouver. She frequently presents at conferences on the law and education, and is called upon to testify as an expert witness in education cases. She is the past president of the National Council of State Education Attorneys, Oregon Administrative Law Judges, and Washington Council of School Attorneys.

All that may sound pretty boring but it really has been fun. I believe in public education and have been able to make a positive difference for kids and work with outstanding people. There is more to life than work though … I have one son, Kenneth Andrieu, a geologist (U of O ‘95). He married Jennifer Dennis, who is the daughter of Tessie Powell Dennis (‘64) and Wayne Dennis (’61) both of KU. They have two children, and live in Vancouver so much good time is spent with them. Two years ago, I took my 9 year old grandson, Jordan, on took an east coast tour of American historical sites, and this year he and I traveled to Costa Rica. The granddaughter is adorable at 15 months, but she’ll have to wait a few years for travel time with “Gramma K”. I have a great partner of eleven years, Dave Welker, who is a mechanical engineer, avid fisherman, hunter, and jazz musician; and fortunately, is willing to put up with my crazy work schedule. We built a beach house on the ocean on the Long Beach Peninsula in 2001 and spend our week-ends there, totally forgetting about work! At the beach, life is very simple-long walks with Dave’s two Labrador Retrievers chasing the surf and catching frisbees, photography, digging clams, kite flying, canoeing, hiking, kayaking, and water color painting (I went to Provence, France last year for a water color workshop with the painter Eric Weigardt). Life is sweet.

I often reflect on how lucky I was to be growing up in Klamath in the 50’s and 60’s. It was great to see all of you at the reunion, and I look forward to staying in touch.

After graduation from OSU in elementary education I married Charley Thompson ( Henley '63). We spent 23 years living in three locations in Idaho where I taught elementary school and Charley worked for a vegetable seed company.

Our three daughters were all born there and two continue to live in the Boise area. They are the moms of  our five grandsons.

In 1990 Charley was transferred to the company's California operation and we lived in South Monterey County for 7 years. I continued to teach until we retired and moved back to Klamath Falls in 1997. We live on Charley's family's farm in the Henley area and we enjoy being back in Klamath Falls again.

Our farm is leased, so we keep busy with our yard, volunteer work, traveling and helping my Mom, who is now 94.

Our middle daughter lives here on the farm and has a "landscape design and build" business.

I have enjoyed working on the reunion committee because it has been a way to reconnect with old friends.

In the fall of 1964 (about a year after graduation) , I was still living at home and working at the Greyhound Bus Depot.  One day I noticed that there were some young guys who had moved into the apartments across the street.  I assumed they were attending college at the new O.T.I. campus.  One, in particular, looked kind of interesting so I started walking down Biehn Street everytime I saw him driving somewhere in hopes he would ask if I needed a ride.  Almost wore out a pair of shoes before Don finally stopped and gave me a lift home.  He asked me to go to a basketball game at the college.  We were married in April 1965 and this year celebrated our 43rd anniversary.

We have two children, John who is 42 and Greg (deceased in 1987 at age 17).  We have two informally adopted grandchildren, Jordan (8) and Tanner (6).  Don retired from the City of Portland in 1997 after 30 years as a civil engineer.  I had been working at 1st Interstate Bank/Wells Fargo for 8 years at the time and decided to quit my job so we could do some traveling.  We moved to LaPine in 1998 and shoveled snow for 4 years before moving to Ridgefield Washington, just north of Vancouver where we live now.

Our travels have included a driving trip while Don was still working that took us to 17 states.  It was the first time away from the northwest for either of us.  After retirement, we traveled to Europe and visited 5 countries and took a cruise down the Rhine River in Germany.  Then we traveled to Mexico (where I tried parasailing for the first time), Hawaii, the New England states, Branson Missouri, Carmel California, and most recently Disneyland for our 42nd anniversary (it was the first time there for both of us).

Other activities we enjoy are fishing and camping, treasure hunting, and occasionally stopping at casinos.

I retired after working for years at a resort just outside Bryce Canyon National Park, a grocery clerk in Crescent City, Ca. (Redwoods National Park ) and a credit union here in Electric City, Wa. (Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area-Grand Coulee Dam). We also spent 5 years and six winters at Crater Lake N. P.!!! (Notice the six winters part). We lived some great places and our kids learned a lot growing up in National Parks.

We have three children and five and 8/9th grandchildren and will be heading to Bull Frog, Utah shortly for the the birth of #6. (Bull Frog is at the end of the world on the very upper end of Lake Powell.)

In 1966, I married a young Air Force officer who was stationed at Kingsley Field. We lived in Texas twice, Alabama twice, Vietnam (without me), USAF Academy, Colorado (two times), Michigan, Denver, CO, and Oregon. We have two children, a son (engaged to be married), and a daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren. We are fortunate to have all of them live nearby. After my husband Lee’s, retirement from the Air Force we moved to Vancouver, Washington, where he was a professor at the University of Portland and I began a teaching career with the Vancouver School District. This year we will celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary. Some of my most treasured moments since graduation from high school are: earning a master’s degree, donating a kidney to my son in 2000, the wedding of my daughter, and the birth of my two grandchildren. Now that we have both “retired” we are experiencing new adventures and in our spare time volunteering for different organizations and traveling.

I am looking forward to our 45 year reunion—Wow 45 years where has the time gone?

After graduation from High School I moved to San Francisco and attended IBM school for computers. After graduation from the IBM Computer School, I went to work in San Francisco at Wells Fargo Bank in the Computer Department. I loved living in San Francisco and to this day it is my favorite city. I married Jim Carland (class of 62). Two years later we divorced. I stayed in the San Francisco Bay area until 1969 and then moved back to Klamath Falls. In 1970 I married Ron Hinshaw and we had two amazing children and moved to Eugene, OR in 1974. My son, Jeff is 35 and lives in Portland, OR and is a Senior Developer for Nike Corp. in Beaverton, OR. My daughter, Jenny is 29 and works for Tripwire (Software Company) in Portland, OR and is the Online Database Marketing Administrator. I have been divorced from Ron Hinshaw since 1991.

I worked for the Eugene School District for 24 years and just retired in December 2007. I had three different jobs for the Eugene School District, the first job I had I was in charge of a library in and elementary school and it was the best job for me, who wouldn’t love working with the kids and finding books that they wanted to read and being able to read them stories every week. I love children’s book and if I could get a child interested in reading, then I was successful. From there I was offered the position as the Department Secretary for Health Services. I worked with all the nurses in the school district (20 nurses). I later became certified to teach First Aid and CPR & AED to all the teachers, coaches, and volunteers in the school district and did that for 10 years. This has really been a passion for me—Teaching First Aid & CPR. Imagine by teaching someone First Aid and CPR they could save someone’s life. I own a First Aid and CPR business and I am still teaching First Aid and CPR to people in the community. The name of my business is “Trained For Life.” I have recently accepted a position with “Medic First Aid” as their Master Trainer and will be training other people from all over the US to become Instructors and Trainers.

About 3 ½ years ago I met the most magnificent man. (Ask me how I met him at the reunion) Bob Beaty and became engaged in Dec 2006 and we are in no hurry to get married—life is really great just the way it is now. He really is fun, and we are having the time of our lives spending each day together. I only wished I would have met him 40 years ago. Bob is still working he says he is working because he has too many toys to support. We have 4 Street Rods and take the cars to different shows during the Summer and Fall seasons—this is our hobby and it allows us to do quite a bit of traveling. Life is really grand and I feel so very lucky to have all the things I have in life. I think growing up in Klamath Falls was the best. We are the generation that is still being talked about—and we got to live it. I have so many memories that are good because of growing up in Klamath Falls. I look forward to seeing everyone again.

Larry D. Smith LDSLJS26@BENDBROADBAND.COM

This is a very brief history of the last 45 years. I left KUHS on a work/college scholarship with U.S. National Bank. I worked for a year at the bank and decided to enter the Navy during the Vietnam War. Spent four years (1964-1968) as an electronics technician in the Navy and was discharged as a 1st Class Petty Officer. Upon discharge, I worked for the bank another year, got married to a former classmate, Cheryl Drake, and then attended the U of O and graduated with a BBA in Accounting. During that time, we also had our first child in 1970, a son by the name of Scott. I decided the bank wasn’t where I wanted to spend my working life, so was hired into a national public accounting firm in Eugene and worked there from 1972 to 1976. During this period, our daughter by the name of Tamara was born in 1974. We moved back to Klamath Fall in 1976 and I worked for a public accounting firm there from 1976 to 1980. In 1980, I was invited to join a public accounting firm as a partner in Bend, Oregon and we relocated there. I worked in Bend from 1980 to 1986. During that time, Cheryl and I were divorced in 1983 and I married my current wife, Laura, who had two children from a previous marriage. The accounting partnership broke up in 1986 and we moved back to Eugene where we both worked for different public accounting firms for the next 19 years until we decided to retire in April/May of 2005. We haven’t regretted a minute of it. We moved to Redmond, OR. in late 2006 to be closer to Laura’s family since everyone else had moved out of the valley. We currently occupy our time playing duplicate bridge, some golf, visiting our kids and three grandkids, but mostly we have got hooked on “Geocaching” and spend a significant amount of time outside hiking and seeing the country looking for caches. There is no better way to see areas of the country you wouldn’t see otherwise. Currently we have cached in 27 states, Canada & Mexico. Our goal is to cache in all 50 states within the next couple of years, with a trip planned this fall to the NE to cache in 14 more states.

Jeane Snyder Shults

I married Jim Shults in 1963. We moved to Ashland, OR in 1965 where our three boys were born. We then built a home in Central Point, Oregon and the boys went to school and graduated from Crater High. In 1986 we moved to Fairfield and continued our careers... I worked for a dentist in Medford for 8 years and 22 years for a dentist where we currently live. I retired two years ago and am loving it. I love traveling, golf, site seeing and reading. Although this was my lst reunion it will not be my last. I had a blast! Oh! We have 12 grandchildren.
